If you’ve seen both flags put together you may have noticed that both flags look very similar. And that’s because they do.

The US flag has 13 stripes alternating between red and white with a blue square in the top left corner.

Guess what..

Malaysia also has a flag with 13 stripes alternating between red and white. As well as the blue square in the top left.

So what are the main differences?

The US flag has 50 stars inside of the blue square. And the Malaysian flag has a yellow crescent moon and sun in the blue square.

So.. why are these flags so similar? Especially with the US flag being ranked as a top 3 most famous flag in the world.

The truth is, it was just an accident.

As lame as this might sound, it’s true. It was modeled on the British East India Company Flag. But instead of the same meaning, the Malaysian flag resembles the history and past of their culture.

The Crescent in the flag represents Islam – The country’s state religion.

The star consists of 14 points. Each point is to symbolize the unity between the entities.

The color blue in their flag is to represent the unity of Malaysian people, and the yellow is the royal color of Malay Rulers.

For the US flag; The 13 stripes represent the original 13 colonies while the 50 stars represent each state.

The color blue symbolizes vigilance, perseverance, and justice.

Red represents hardiness and valor, while white represents purity and innocence.

Each flag has very similar designs, but it just happened to be an accident. Although very similar designs their meanings are what separate them.
